Gala Six Thinking Hats Slideshow

Hi Guys, I'm back. One week ago we had our gala day that Iv'e been talking about. It went splendid and even people from outside of the school came. At the gala day there was activities such as Wet The Teacher, Grab The Crab, Coin Toss, Slip n' Slide, and many other amazing things. After that on Monday we started making a six thinking hats slideshow. If you don't what the hats are, they have a red hat a green hat a black hat a white hat and a yellow hat.
Hope you Enjoy!

The Gala was a really fun thing to do and we raised around 13,00 dollars for it.
One thing I wish didn't happen is that all my tote bags except for my reserved one. but everything else went to plan.

Summer Blogging Programe

Hi guys this is just a practise for a summer blogging programme we are doing. This one is in the past so there will be different ones. We are doing this to in the summer to keep our minds active. Every day for 4 weeks there will be activities we will do and we will get points for them. The Top 3 people with the most points will get prizes.

  • Kiwis have invented a lot more stuff than you think like Sir Ernest Rutherford (New Zealander) split the atom
  • A person went around the world illegally jumping off things like, the Harbour bridge, Eiffel Tower and lots of other stuff with a harness to invent the bungy jump.
  • Bruce Mclaren ( New Zealander) invented the Mclaren racecar as well, where he showed off in a race.

I think this going to be a very cool thing because it will keep our brains active and also my blog will have lots more things on our blogs.

Hauraki's Gala Preparation

This year Waikowhai Primary School is having a Gala Day on November 25th. We are fundraising for the Junior playground. Each class had to make something for the day. Hauraki is making tote bags for the day to raise awareness to people on plastic bags, Manukau is making Recycled Paper and Waitemata is making soap. This was really cool because it taught me how to sew which is a very good skill. It also taught me a lot about how much damage plastic bags do to our environment.

The first step to making a tote bag is getting your fabric then you have to cut and measure the right size. Next you have to pin the sides and then the bottom. After, you have to sew from the top, down one side, across the bottom, and up the other side, but do not sew the top of the bag together. Then fold the top down and sew a hem, fold it down again and sew another hem. Then cut handles that are about 70cm long and place them inside the top of your bag. On each end of the handles sew a square to hold the handles securely.

The Mess

My first bag was not as good as my 2nd and 3rd bag.
My favourite bag was my 3rd the one with the pasifika flowers and the blue back.
This was one of the most fun things we have done all year. It was almost as fun as camp.
The most challenging thing about this was that the sewing machines always in some way would stop working.
This has changed my thinking a lot about plastic bags and I hope it did for you too.

NZ Journey

Ola guys I'm back, last week we started a slideshow that was about travelling from the bottom of the South Island all the way to the top of the North Island. The things that we had to pay for were Accommodation, Activities, Petrol and Car Rentals. We had a budget for every day and we had to try and not go over budget. My budget was $500 and with all the 11 days my budget was $5500. Sadly I went over budget by $700.

In slide 15 I think that were I went over budget because I chose a really expensive hotel in Queenstown called Hilton Hotel. I chose it because I saw the pictures and it looked very luxurious.
This was one of the most fun things we have done in math this year.
If I did it again I would probably spend less money on Accommodation and a little bit more money on activities.

Inquiry

Hi Bloggers, Later in the term we had to choose an Inquiry topic on mountains. I choose Natural Disasters, we then had to come up with some questions we wanted to answer about that topic. After we did that we had think of how we could present the answers to the questions. Some people choose to make sculptress or a painting other people like me presented using their Chromebooks and creating an animation. To watch my animation correctly hold down the right arrow key and it will take you through. Hope You Enjoy My Animation!

`
This work was not that easy and I got a little stuck on the animation.
We did this around mountains because we went to Mt Ruapehu on camp.
I think I worked really hard on this and first slideshow over 1000 slides.

Cross Country

Hi Bloggers, a couple of days ago we did Cross Country it was so fun and exciting also very tiring. I came fourth just behind Sam but that means that I will be going to running zones later in the year. Last year I went to zones but I couldn't blog about it because I was Year 4 and didn't have a blog but this year I can and it's to be a very cool experience. This year I think we're doing the run for zones around Mt Roskill, last year we did it on Monte Cecilia so it will be a different experience. Hope You Enjoy The Pics!

Magical World of Crazy Science - By Richard and Robyn

Today we had a Crazy World of Science Show. It was amazing and I learnt a lot of things about science. The show was mostly based on chemicals. I was most amazed on how he ignited a lighter then put his hand over the lighter threw the fire up and it became a firework. Another thing he did was he taught us how chemical reactions work. Basically, a chemical reaction happens when 2 or more things mix together and it changes the state of the substance. I learnt that there is chemical in babies nappies called a Polymer this turns liquid into solid straight away. He also gave us a fact that the thinnest object in the world can be seen with the naked eye. Another really cool thing he showed us was he got a blow dryer and a small ball he turned the blow dryer on and let go of the ball and it hovered It was so amazing and then he went on to get leaf blower and a giant earth ball and that even hovered as well. I wonder now how he made fire turn into a firework and make it sparkle. Hope You Enjoy The Pics!
