Gala Six Thinking Hats Slideshow

Hi Guys, I'm back. One week ago we had our gala day that Iv'e been talking about. It went splendid and even people from outside of the school came. At the gala day there was activities such as Wet The Teacher, Grab The Crab, Coin Toss, Slip n' Slide, and many other amazing things. After that on Monday we started making a six thinking hats slideshow. If you don't what the hats are, they have a red hat a green hat a black hat a white hat and a yellow hat.
Hope you Enjoy!

The Gala was a really fun thing to do and we raised around 13,00 dollars for it.
One thing I wish didn't happen is that all my tote bags except for my reserved one. but everything else went to plan.

Summer Blogging Programe

Hi guys this is just a practise for a summer blogging programme we are doing. This one is in the past so there will be different ones. We are doing this to in the summer to keep our minds active. Every day for 4 weeks there will be activities we will do and we will get points for them. The Top 3 people with the most points will get prizes.

  • Kiwis have invented a lot more stuff than you think like Sir Ernest Rutherford (New Zealander) split the atom
  • A person went around the world illegally jumping off things like, the Harbour bridge, Eiffel Tower and lots of other stuff with a harness to invent the bungy jump.
  • Bruce Mclaren ( New Zealander) invented the Mclaren racecar as well, where he showed off in a race.

I think this going to be a very cool thing because it will keep our brains active and also my blog will have lots more things on our blogs.

Hauraki's Gala Preparation

This year Waikowhai Primary School is having a Gala Day on November 25th. We are fundraising for the Junior playground. Each class had to make something for the day. Hauraki is making tote bags for the day to raise awareness to people on plastic bags, Manukau is making Recycled Paper and Waitemata is making soap. This was really cool because it taught me how to sew which is a very good skill. It also taught me a lot about how much damage plastic bags do to our environment.

The first step to making a tote bag is getting your fabric then you have to cut and measure the right size. Next you have to pin the sides and then the bottom. After, you have to sew from the top, down one side, across the bottom, and up the other side, but do not sew the top of the bag together. Then fold the top down and sew a hem, fold it down again and sew another hem. Then cut handles that are about 70cm long and place them inside the top of your bag. On each end of the handles sew a square to hold the handles securely.

The Mess

My first bag was not as good as my 2nd and 3rd bag.
My favourite bag was my 3rd the one with the pasifika flowers and the blue back.
This was one of the most fun things we have done all year. It was almost as fun as camp.
The most challenging thing about this was that the sewing machines always in some way would stop working.
This has changed my thinking a lot about plastic bags and I hope it did for you too.

NZ Journey

Ola guys I'm back, last week we started a slideshow that was about travelling from the bottom of the South Island all the way to the top of the North Island. The things that we had to pay for were Accommodation, Activities, Petrol and Car Rentals. We had a budget for every day and we had to try and not go over budget. My budget was $500 and with all the 11 days my budget was $5500. Sadly I went over budget by $700.

In slide 15 I think that were I went over budget because I chose a really expensive hotel in Queenstown called Hilton Hotel. I chose it because I saw the pictures and it looked very luxurious.
This was one of the most fun things we have done in math this year.
If I did it again I would probably spend less money on Accommodation and a little bit more money on activities.

Inquiry

Hi Bloggers, Later in the term we had to choose an Inquiry topic on mountains. I choose Natural Disasters, we then had to come up with some questions we wanted to answer about that topic. After we did that we had think of how we could present the answers to the questions. Some people choose to make sculptress or a painting other people like me presented using their Chromebooks and creating an animation. To watch my animation correctly hold down the right arrow key and it will take you through. Hope You Enjoy My Animation!

`
This work was not that easy and I got a little stuck on the animation.
We did this around mountains because we went to Mt Ruapehu on camp.
I think I worked really hard on this and first slideshow over 1000 slides.

Cross Country

Hi Bloggers, a couple of days ago we did Cross Country it was so fun and exciting also very tiring. I came fourth just behind Sam but that means that I will be going to running zones later in the year. Last year I went to zones but I couldn't blog about it because I was Year 4 and didn't have a blog but this year I can and it's to be a very cool experience. This year I think we're doing the run for zones around Mt Roskill, last year we did it on Monte Cecilia so it will be a different experience. Hope You Enjoy The Pics!

Cross Country was really fun and really hard.
Even now I'm still tired from it.

Magical World of Crazy Science - By Richard and Robyn

Today we had a Crazy World of Science Show. It was amazing and I learnt a lot of things about science. The show was mostly based on chemicals. I was most amazed on how he ignited a lighter then put his hand over the lighter threw the fire up and it became a firework. Another thing he did was he taught us how chemical reactions work. Basically, a chemical reaction happens when 2 or more things mix together and it changes the state of the substance. I learnt that there is chemical in babies nappies called a Polymer this turns liquid into solid straight away. He also gave us a fact that the thinnest object in the world can be seen with the naked eye. Another really cool thing he showed us was he got a blow dryer and a small ball he turned the blow dryer on and let go of the ball and it hovered It was so amazing and then he went on to get leaf blower and a giant earth ball and that even hovered as well. I wonder now how he made fire turn into a firework and make it sparkle. Hope You Enjoy The Pics!

Minecraft Charcter Making

Ola Bloggers, In Maths we did a really fun thing using google sheets. What we did was we made Minecraft and other video game and movie characters. We had to highlight boxes to and put colour in them to make the character. I made the character Steve in Minecraft, Alex in Minecraft as well and all the swords in Minecraft. Max made Logan Paul a Youtuber that one was my favourite. Here is the link to Max's Blog Click Here. Hope You Enjoy.

Making these characters was very fun and not that challenging.
If you want to you could do this as well it's not that hard.

Camp Slideshow

Hi Guys, one week ago the we went on an extraordinary camp to Mt Ruapehu where we did Skiing and Snowboarding. Before we went we started making a slideshow about Mount Ruapehu and the other mountains in that region also we went to the Hamilton Gardens and the Edmond Hillary Walkway so we answered a few questions about those places. The Parents and Staff took a lot of photos on the trip. The first lesson that I had on skiing was not very fun and boring but was good to get the basics of skiing back into my brain. The second lesson was way more fun and exciting because we got to ski from the top of Happy Valley and do jumps. At the end of the day I was a lot better at skiing. Hope you enjoy my slide and the pics that we took.

Doing this work was really fun it was even more fun going on camp and spending time with my friends.
Next year for camp I would love to go to Mount Ruapehu again for camp.
I'm still a little bit bummed out about coming back from such an exciting camp.
The hardest thing to learn on skiis was how to stop almost instantly.

Blog Commenting

Hi Bloggers, this is a blog post about commenting. In cyber-smart we had to find someones blog in the Ako Hiko schools. I chose Paula at Wesley Primary School here is a link to his blog http://wpspaulal.blogspot.co.nz/. Every Friday we have to post a comment on someones blog in Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu and then post a blog post. In this work we had to come up with a positive, thoughtful and a helpful sentence then we had to come up with a question.

This work was pretty easy because I comment like this every Friday.

Ako Hiko Student Toolkits Trip

Hey Guys, today we went on a trip to New Windsor School the whole entire of Ako Hiko came along and we had lots of fun. there was about 21-24 people chosen to come from each school. What we did was go into workshops, I choose for my first workshop Scratch coding and I had to choose for my second one How to make Animation using google slides because I was teaching it with Alex and Oscar. It was really fun doing teaching and lots of the people we were teaching nearly finished making their animation. After we did the workshops we had a problem solving challenge. 4 people (Anuk, Joyce, Dora and Izzy) had to make a structure that was at least 10 cm tall and had to have a 100 gram cup in or on top of their structure. We finished 2nd and won the most creative!
Hope You Enjoy My Pictures!

Going to the Ako Hiko Student led toolkits was very fun and exciting. My favourite bit was presenting.
I learned more about scratch which is very exciting because coding is a very important skill.
Next year if I can go again I will choose some different workshops.

Wonder Map About Tote Bags

Hi Bloggers, this is my wonder map about tote bags. In Inquiry each class in the senior syndicate is making re-useable items. Hauraki, the class I'm in, is making tote bags for the gala day that we are having at the end of the year. This is a google drawing about what I think and what I know about tote bags it's called a wonder map.
Hope You Enjoy!

This work was pretty easy but was sometimes was hard to think of a question.
I think tote bags are way better than plastic bags and also help environment.

My Animation

Hi Bloggers, This is my Animation about a meteor hitting the earth. The way that I made this was duplicating slides. To make animation every second go to the next slide. The pictures had to be PNG which means it has an invisible background.
Hope You Enjoy!

This work was pretty easy but it took me some time to figure out what I was going to do.
Animation is really fun and this was my first time making animation.
I choose to do this because I like doing things about apocalyptic situations.

Me and Ben's Cyberbullying comic

Hello Bloggers, in Cybersmart we had to make a comic about making smart choices using gmail. Ben and I decided to to do a comic about people bullying each other on gmail. I'm the cyberbully and Ben is the victim.
Hope You Enjoy:)

I think cyberbullying is wrong and should be stopped.
Making this comic was pretty easy but was kind of hard to come up with the plot
You could use this comic in writing and inquiry as well as cybersmart.

Look who I found

Hi Bloggers, in Cybersmart we have been looking on google images and how you can't help a picture of you go onto google images. We had to do a google drawing and find everybody in our classroom we could put our teachers, other students not from our classroom and our parents.
Hope You Enjoy!

This work was pretty easy but sometimes hard finding people.
I learnt a lot about google images and how with just a click of button your online.

90 Mile Beach Turtle

Hi everyone, In the Philippa Werry group we have looked at a turtle that had been washed up on 90 mile beach and it had some pieces of plastic in it's body. 90 mile beach over the past month has been filled with rubbish. The turtle was taken to Auckland Zoo rehabilitation centre but then it went to Kelly Tarltons. We had to go onto a slideshow and answer questions. There is also a video and a link to a article about this.

I thought this work was pretty easy and also a little sad.
I learnt a lot about 90 mile beach as well.

Pick a Path Story

Two weeks ago we started planning a pick a path story then we did a google slides to show our pick a path story. 1 month ago we made a wild character, my story is about a human looking for treasure in the rainforest and a wild Bisat is guarding it. Hope you enjoy picking a path and you don't die.

This was very cool because I got to make a pick a path story and I have not made one in a while. This made me learn that you can be very creative when you are making a pick a path story.

Thinglink About Me

This is a Thinglink about me, we did this for Cybersmart to give some information about ourselves. We put a photo of us that we made with Be Funky. On Be Funky we had to make our self look weird or look cool. I made look cool but it would be fun to make myself look weird.  We couldn't give too much information about ourselves like our email or your date of birth. When we did the Thinglink we had to write two paragraphs about ourselves, two videos that inspired us and two pieces of work that we liked. Hope you enjoy these facts about me.

I learnt that Thinglink is a great way to give information about yourself and that some information you shouldn't share.
When we did this I noticed that lots of people for the videos that inspired them they chose music videos but music videos don't really inspire me.

My Tooth Slideshow

The Tooth is a book that has true facts in it about the Napier earthquake but it is not a true story written by Des Hunt. In the story there is a person called Timothy Thomas he is the main character in the story. His Mum died in the Napier Earthquake.

We read the whole entire book last term, I thought the book was one of the best books I had ever read the things I really liked about it were that it was super funny sometimes and I adore Comedic books. I also liked that it was exciting and you never knew what would happen next.

Skateboarding Writing

Last Week We Did Our First Skateboarding Lesson and it was Very Fun!! So we decided to write about it. We had a choice of writing I did a Recount. Hope you Enjoy My Writing

Skateboarding

I woke up. I knew today was going be an exciting day, because today we were going to have our first Skateboarding Lesson!. Finally it was time. We were a little bit late, because we were doing work on our Chromebooks. When we got there they taught us how to put on our  Knee Pads, Elbow Pads, Wrist Guards and a Helmet.

Then we got around to doing Skateboarding. the most fun bit!
I got an Orange board. Martin and Aiden, our Skateboarding teachers, showed us the starting position and then how to move forward. After a few laps they taught us how to turn. Once time ran out, we had to clean up. Cleaning up was not very hard all you had to do was get either a knee pad, elbow pad or wrist guard and strap it up completely and then strap the other one around it.
"Today was a good day!"

I Thought Skateboarding was Super Fun and can't wait until the next lesson. I chose a recount because I am good at writing them and also they are pretty easy.

Rocket Lab Facts

Rocket Labs First Launch!

In Reading the Philippa Werry group has been making an Info-graphic using google drawings. We had to go onto Kiwi Kids News and go to the heading "Rocket Lab Soars into Space" and read about it then we had to make an info-graphic using relevant pictures with an invisible background. Hope You Enjoy My Info-graphic!

I thought the work was pretty easy and it gave a lot more information about the company Rocket Lab.
I learnt in info-graphics you can't use pictures with backgrounds as successfully as cutout images.

Thinking Hats for Te Waka Ako

WALT: Use de Bono Thinking Hats to show understanding.
On Monday we had an opening ceremony for Te Waka Ako the Seniors new classroom. It took 2 years for Mrs Peterson to design and 1 year for the builders to build. Te Waka Ako is an ILE, an innovative learning environment. Here is a link to a article about ILE http://elearning.tki.org.nz/Teaching/Innovative-learning-environments
What we were supposed to go onto Mr Riceman's Writing page and click on the Thinking Hats link. We have six thinking hats Information, Good things, Negative things, How I feel, Creative and What should I do know. In each of those we wrote about moving into Te Waka Ako.

This made me learn that not being able to hear the bell that well is that big of a problem.
Here is a link to wikipedia about de Bono Six Thinking hats https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Thinking_Hats

Hope you like my Thinking Hats!

Caesar The ANZAC Dog

A few Weeks ago we read the story Caesar The ANZAC Dog. The story was about a bulldog that saved many lives in WW1. Caesar was shot by a German Sniper while trying to save an ally. His handler Tom later was gassed and went blind but then married Kath Butcher. I thought the book was amazing and one thing I really liked was that it was true.

I thought the work was pretty easy but somtimes challenging with the questions.

My Painting Inspired by Fatu Feu'u

We were inspired by Fatu Feu'u to make a painting with two different cultural patterns covering the artwork. We used paint and mixed primary colours to get secondary colours. Also we mixed primary colours and secondary colours to get to receive  tertiary colours

In my opinion Painting was sometimes very hard and it was also hard thinking of patterns
